At age 20, Irish born Amy Carmichael sensed God’s call to serve him, and in obedience, ‘Amma’, as she was affectionately known, laboured in India for over 55 years. Remaining single, yet blessed with a multitude of children, Amy is known for her brave work rescuing young girls from temple prostitution, and through her influence, temple prostitution was eventually banned throughout India in 1948. A prolific writer, Amy influenced many who have followed in her footsteps and today, the good work of the Dohnavur Fellowship – a place of sanctuary, education, hope and healing – continues through those who identify as her great-grandchildren. We honour Amy Carmichael and give thanks to God for the courageous faith she inspires to stand against sex-trafficking, and the abuse of children.
